Coastal access in Kent
Work has started on proposals for improved public access along a stretch of the Kent coast between Ramsgate Pier and Folkestone. We expect the new access to be ready at some time during 2014.
Officers from Kent County Council will be working closely with us to develop the proposals, providing expert local advice and ensuring there is full consultation with local interests.
Latest update – 19 March 2012
We have started to develop our proposals for improved public access along the Kent coast between Ramsgate and Folkestone. The new route will form part of the England Coast Path – a new National Trail that will eventually allow people to walk around the whole English coast. We expect this part of the trail to be completed during 2014. During the last year, Natural England’s South East Coastal Access Team have visited all the coastal land that is likely to be affected, talked to the owners and occupiers involved and explored options for improving coastal access in detail.
If you are the owner or occupier of land which you believe may be affected - or have another legal interest in the land (for example common or sporting rights) - and we have not yet spoken to you, please get in touch so that we can listen to your views. Public consultation
We are currently preparing the draft report for public consultation due to be published in Summer 2012.
The report will be on our website and we will be contacting landholders and stakeholders to inform them when the report is available. There will then be a formal 12 week consultation process for comments to be made on our proposals. We will also be holding public consultation events at local libraries in the Summer to enable any member of the public to also make comments. And copies of our draft proposals will be available in council offices and libraries in the local area for people to view.
