The UK has one of the best wind resources in the world. Wind energy is one of the more mature and economically proven renewable technologies.
It is predicted that wind energy will make the most substantial contribution to renewable energy targets over the next 25 years. Currently, onshore generation in the UK is greater than offshore, although this will reverse in the future.
However, as well as contributing to greenhouse gas reduction, the construction of wind energy generators can damage the wildlife and landscapes that UK society values. It is essential, therefore, that wind energy is deployed in a sustainable manner that avoids unacceptable impacts on the natural environment.
