Stodmarsh: how to get there

Stodmarsh NNR is in Kent.

Stodmarsh NNR is on the Great Stour River south of, and almost immediately adjacent to the A28, midway between Canterbury and Margate. The nearest villages are Upstreet on the A28, and Stodmarsh.

By cycle

Stodmarsh is on Route 1 of the Sustrans National Cycle Network

By train

The nearest train station is in Sturry, 5 km to the south west.

By bus

Regular bus services along the A28 from Sturry to Upstreet are provided by Stagecoach East Kent.

By car

The reserve car park is east of Stodmarsh village, located along the turn off between the Red Lion pub and the church. This car parking is free. There is additional pay and display parking by the Grove Ferry Pub (CT3 4BP) which can be found on Grove Road, south east of Upstreet.

On foot

Stodmarsh is on the path of the Stour Valley Walk.

Accessibility

There is a 1.3 km easy access nature trail at the Stodmarsh end of the reserve - with a number of interpretation panels - accessed via a minor road from Stodmarsh village. The trail passes through woodland and includes a section of boardwalk through the reedbed. At Grove Ferry the path to the ramp, David Feast Hide and Harrison’s Drove hide are all accessible to wheelchair.

There is also a circular 6km walk around the whole reserve and another that follows the Great Stour river for much of its length within the reserve area

The paths are well maintained and sign-posted but being a wetland are prone to occasional flooding.

Kent Council County have produced leaflets detailing two walks across Stodmarsh which you can download.

There are toilets in the Stodmarsh car park and in the Grove Ferry car park and refreshments are available in local towns and villages.
