‘Welcome to the Wildside’ is very much about welcoming everyone to enjoy and experience three very different National Nature Reserves (NNRs) in Kent; Stodmarsh NNR which is just outside Canterbury and Wye NNR and Ham Street Woods NNR that are located near to Ashford. The project's aim is to put people back in touch with nature.

So..... get up, get out and get going.

Introducing National Nature Reserves

National Nature Reserves (NNRs) are some of the very finest sites in England for wildlife and geology, and provide great opportunities for people to experience nature.

Welcome to the Wildside is keen to explore the potential of National Nature Reserves in a more creative and innovative way. Here are some thoughts on what makes the Reserves so special. They are:

  • Inspirational and stimulating - with a variety of textures, natural outlines, shadows, shapes, sounds and smells that can really stimulate the senses and inspire creativity.

  • Practical and productive - ideal for hands on practical conservation tasks and to learn why different habitat management techniques are so important.

  • Fascinating and informative - with the discovery of nature and wildlife that can reach out to every level from toddlers to special interest groups.

  • Healthy and invigorating - getting out into the fresh air with friends and family.

  • Cultural and enlightening - exploring how the Reserves link in with the past, the present and the future.

What do you think makes them so special?please tell us - or even better come and visit one of the Reserves or join in one of our events.
