New community hide installed at Stodmarsh
As part of our education program we have installed a new community hide at the education area at the Grove Ferry end of the reserve. The hide has been a great success and used over the summer to host school visits and summer events. We would like local communities and schools to help us design the inside of the hide as there is plenty of wall space. So if you are feeling creative and would like to help, get in touch at wildside@naturalengland.org.uk
Summer events get 1408 children inspired!
Throughout the summer we have held events and school visits at the reserves with more events planned in the Autumn. In total we have managed to engage with 1408 children in environmental education activities which has been fantastic and feedback has shown how valuable these events are in connecting children with their natural environment. If you are interested in what the reserves can offer in terms of education, take time to look at our curriculum linked education packs.
New visitor facilities at Wye
We’ve been busy at Wye with the installation of five nature trail panels, a viewpoint picture which helps identify landmarks on the horizon and a 3d tactile sculpture of the fantastic Devil’s Kneading Trough. In addition, we have also installed a walkers’ shelter in the car park. This provides a place to sit and rest before or after your walk. It also means that there is now no excuse not to dust your walking boots off and walk to the reserve from Wye village by following the North Downs Way National Trail! Wildside goes techno!
We are developing some new and interesting materials for you to use at the reserves. These materials will help you identify some of the spectacular wildlife and provide you with more information on the history and the special interest of the reserves. Click on the links below:

Get snapping and send in your photographs for our monthly photo competition. We are running a monthly photograph competition, all you need to do is email us your shot taken at either Wye, Stodmarsh or Ham Street National Nature Reserves and let us know where and when you took it. It could be wildlife, views or people, but why not try and capture a photo which encapsulates what you love about the reserves. Email wildside@naturalengland.org.uk with your entries.
