Geodiversity Partnerships aim to bring together geodiversity groups, organisations and individuals in each geographical region that have an interest in geodiversity.
These partnerships have been or are in the process of being established in each English region. They are comprised of public, private and voluntary organisations committed to supporting geodiversity, biodiversity or landscape priorities in their regions. They are similar in status to Regional Biodiversity Partnerships and Regional Landscape Partnerships.
Geodiversity partnerships aim to share experience and knowledge, influencing the development of regional planning and policy and developing geodiversity initiatives and projects across each region.
They provide an important voice for geodiversity at a regional level.
The West Midlands Geodiversity Partnership was the first to be set up. Established in 2006, it includes local geology groups and a range of local authorities. It has established a strong local voice which has influenced the inclusion of geodiversity policies in planning documents.
GeoEast is the partnership for the East of England. Its establishment has immediately led to the development of a cross-regional project looking at the interpretation of the chalk as part of the region's landscape.
