Natural England is committed to demonstrating sound environmental management practices with its own estate. We are committed to producing and implementing Visitor Travel Plans for the most visited National Nature Reserves under our management.
This is part of the service standards we are preparing for these sites. A travel plan is a simple management tool designed to minimise the negative impact of travel and transport on the environment.
In effect, the plan is a package of measures to reduce car use by providing public transport information, ensuring cycle facilities are in place, and so on. We have produced guidance for:
our own staff about how to produce and implement Visitor Travel Plans, and
guidance for an external audience, too - seeĀ Visitor travel plans for countryside leisure destinations![]()
