Farmers in the Northallerton and Bedale area of North Yorkshire are being encouraged to come along to two farm events which could help lower costs and help them comply with regulations.
Farmers and land managers in the Northallerton and Bedale area are being invited to two farm events being held on 6th and 7th July.
These events have been organised by Catchment Sensitive Farming and are aimed at dairy, beef and pig producers looking to enhance returns and improve efficiency. By looking at real life issues on local farms and demonstrating modern and efficient techniques we will show how Catchment Sensitive Farming can lower production costs, increase yields, reduce pollution and help farmers comply with farm regulations.
The event on 6th July will take place between 11.00am and 2.00pm at Willow Tree Farm, Thrintoft, Northallerton. National expert Charles Bentley of ADAS will be there alongside local Catchment Officer Jonathan Skidmore. The event focuses on farm yard infrastructure including cost effective slurry storage, new NVZ requirements and the requirements of the Silage, Slurry & Agricultural Fuel Oil regulations.
The second event takes place with kind permission of Mr Stockdale at White House Farm, Brompton on 7th July between 11.00am and 2.00pm. It sees local contractors and machinery dealers looking at a variety of slurry application techniques which can help reduce bagged fertiliser costs. The event will also include a tour of the farm and a demonstration of both DIY fertiliser spreader calibration and grassland aeration.
Both events are free, however to save disappointment please book your place by either phoning the booking line on 0845 602 3864 or email ECSFDI.events@adas.co.uk. Or for further information contact Catchment Sensitive Farming Officer Jonathan Skidmore on 0300 0602033.
Jonathan Skidmore, who is based with Natural England in Northallerton said: ‘With fertiliser use becoming more complex and expensive now is the time to think about ways of using nutrients more efficiently. Both events are designed to help farmers make better use of their manures to help ensure their farms are more cost effective and environmentally friendly.’
